The much anticipated Formula Drift season opener in Long Beach, CA was this past weekend, and along with the Offset Kings car show, made for a huge event for auto enthusiasts and a great weekend for those lucky enough to be in attendance.
Dennis Mertzanis in the Vortech V-7 YSi Supercharged ARK Performance AR1 Hyundai Genesis Coupe qualified 25th on day 1, and ended making Top 16 before being eliminated by Forrest Wang. Mr. Greek Drift himself will be coming for the rest of the field as he gets more seat time in the new ARK Legato GenCoupe platform, aided by his over 1,000HP Vortech V-7 YSi Supercharged LS7 powerplant.
We aren’t sure what voodoo witchdocter prayers got answered to grant the reprieve on everyone else in the lineup, but Vortech Supercharged Super Badass Matt Field was not able to compete at FDLB due to mechanical difficulties. What the rest of the competitors don’t realize, is that is going to make Matt even more hungry for Road Atlanta. Better watch out boys!
Team Lucas Oil Driver Joon Maeng was doing great in qualifying, until he hung the car out too far and found the wall a little too unforgiving, ending his weekend in grand fashion. Luckily, he was unhurt. We look forward to seeing an R&R’d Maeng and S13 at Road Atlanta, back and ready to go.
Charles Ng’s LSX powered & Vortech Supercharged Speedhunters G37 was looking great and we expect for him to have a great season.
Dean “Karnage” Kearney and his Paxton NOVI 2000 Supercharged Oracle Lighting Viper SRT10 finished in 19th place in Long Beach, but looked great and we expect to see him do very well this year.
On the opposite of the event at the Offset Kings Show, the Tjin Edition x Dayuum/Vortech Superchargers Booth was packed from start to finish, with everyone checking out the V-3 H67B Supercharged Rocket Bunny FR-S and the Vortech Intercooled Tjin Edition Ecoboost F150.
There were 2 different pairs of booth personalities advertising the chance to win the Vortech Intercooled Universal Technical Institute Ford Focus ST…which pair do you think got more traffic?
The Rockstar Performance Garage Camaro SS convertible was on the scene looking great as usual. The long list of modifications on this Gen. 5 is topped of by the Vortech V-3 Si intercooled supercharging system under the hood.
Phuong from LTMW’s Vortech Supercharged Rocket Bunny 2 Subaru BRZ is always a jaw dropper, and even at this show it was no exception.
Big thanks to Rick Rosales, and Denny and Jae from Dayuum for the great photography.
Hope to see everyone at the next leg of the series – Road Atlanta!
