Congratulations to Vortech Racing Drift Driver Matt Field for taking 2nd place in Round 6 of the Formula Drift Series in his Vortech V-7 YSi Supercharged LSX-swapped Nissan S14.
Texas Motor Speedway can be a very tricky track to run in Formula D, especially in tandem. After making some adjustments to the car to better adapt to the track at TMS, Matt was able to qualify 13th (on Friday the 13th – SPOOKY!). Some would have taken that as a bad sign of things to come, but Field set out to dominate the field in commanding fashion.
After defeating Will Parsons in Round 1, and Forrest Wang in Top 16, it was time for Matt to redeem himself in Top 8 against Robbie Nishida, after his mistake in a previous round in Seattle put him into the wall on his lead run. This time the mistake would be on Nishida, and Field was on his way into Top 4.
Next up was Pat Mordaunt, who had been very fast and driving well all weekend. They took off with Pat in the lead, and Matt gapped into the first corner and then reeled in Mordaunt, applying pressure and throwing huge angle right through to the finish line. With Matt’s turn to lead next up, he took off and Field pushed the Vortech V-7 YSi powered LSX hard and didn’t give Mordaunt an inch. After putting a gap on Pat with tons of speed and angle, the decision came up that Matt Field was going to the finals.
And so it would be – Matt Field vs. Michael Essa in the Final Round. Despite possibly the best lead run of the weekend from Field, Essa capitalized on a half spin by Field during Essa’s turn at the lead run, and took the judges decision. Tons of angle from both drivers, giving the crowd what they deserve for an exciting finale.
